Itching is condition that is capable of causing us serious discomfort and embarrassment especially in public places, which shouldn’t be taking with levity.

It may be a sign of another serious underlying disease. Persistent itching results in scratching, which can cause local inflammation, swellings in the skin with deep scratch marks.

And small ulcers into which germs have found their way, causing much more trouble. Such as skin degradation, and possibly the spread of secondary infection.

As you know itching is a depressing and unpleasant sensation which you instinctively attempt to relieve by scratching. A certain amount of mild itching is normal for everyone.

Only when it is persistent and troublesome does it become serious. Many conditions contribute to itching.

These include:

  • insect bites
  • hives
  • contacts dermatitis
  • food allergies
  • Heat rash.
  • Other causes may be diabetes, uremia, jaundice, pregnancy, liver, thyroid and kidney disease, the change of life, drug allergies and various types of nervous conditions.
  • Irritating chemicals spills on the skin
  • Indiscriminate use of cosmetics and skincare substances.

Treatment for Itching

All suspecting medications should be suspended until the root of the problem has been establish. If the itching has spread over large areas of the body, try an oatmeal bath.

Using moisturizing lotions may help, you can take an oatmeal baths by mixing one cup of oatmeal with two cups of cold water and pour this into a tub of water. Lie in this for about twenty minutes twice daily.

When drying yourself, be careful not to increase the irritation. Gently pat the skin and then apply some soothing medication, such as calamine lotion or caladryl.
